(January 27, 2011) Roger Federer will not get the chance to defend his title at the Australian Open after Novak Djokovic defeated him in 3 sets, 7-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinal. Instead, Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open Men's Singles Title in 2008 and now he has a the opportunity to take home the 2011 trophy. He will player the winner of the head-to-head match against 7th seed David Ferrer and 5th seed Andy Murray.

One day after the upset of world no. 1 and favorite for the title, Rafael Nadal, got upset the 2nd seed fell out. Like an American football match, it was as if Djokovic was playing in-front of a home crowd as the audience highly supported and cheered for him throughout the entire match. Not up to his regular form, Roger Federer was shanking backhands and hit 44 unforced errors to Novak's 25.

Able to hold his mental strength, Djokovic was able to come back in the last set when he was down 5-2 to Federer with a fire in his eyes and determination like views saw in the US Open semifinals. The crowds support spurred Novak on, who actually had 29 winners and 5 doubles faults compared to Roger's 35 winners and 0 double faults, but he served effectively at critical points. The Djoker was aggressive and affective at baseline exchanges where he seemed to overpower the world no. 2.

Federer said, "I feel okay, because I'm healthy. I wish I had a chance on Sunday, but, look, Novak was the better player tonight. You got to accept that and move on from here. It's not the end in any way. It's a start for many other tournaments after this. Sure, it's disappointing and it hurts in the moment itself. I wish I could have won here again for the fifth time. But wasn't possible tonight."

If he is to face Andy Murray, he may have a difficult time. Murray could have revenge for the final last year where he lost to Federer in tears that might inspire determination for his first major title. Against Ferrer, Djokovic leads 5-4. He dominated on the hard court at the 2007 US Open semifinal match against David and he beat him in the 2010 at Beijing but Ferrer has nothing to lose as this is could be his first trip to the finals of any major if he defeats Murray.
