(May 13, 2010) Martina Navratilova is making a comeback of sorts at the French Open next month.
The Hall of Famer will join U.S. Fed Cup captain Mary Joe Fernandez, former French Open finalist Conchita Martinez, Nathalie Tauziat, Jana Novotna and three other women at the inaugural French Open Ladies Legends Trophy exhibition event set for June 2nd-5th.
Eight women will make up four teams in the doubles exhibition event. The schedule includes two semifinals, a third/fourth place playoff and the final.
It will be Navratilova's first match since she announced she had breast cancer last month.
The 53-year-old Navratilova, was diagnosed with a "non-invasive form of breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ, or DCIS." Navratilova had a lumpectomy and is expected to make a complete recovery.
Roland Garros has featured a Men's Legends Trophy doubles event. This year, 1989 French Open champion Michael Chang, 2002 title winner Albert Costa and 1999 Roland Garros runner-up Andrei Medvedev will debut in the men's event along with returning players Henri Leconte, Guy Forget, John McEnroe, Guillermo Vilas, Mats Wilander and Ilie Nastase.
