“You go on court and you have to believe yourself,” Zahlavova Strycova said. “I did, and I thought I could do it. I was pushing myself a lot.”
The victory is Zahlavova Strycova’s first against Li in three career matches, and it propels her into the round of 16 at a major for the first time in her career.
The 28-year-old will face Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth round on Monday. Wozniacki romped over 16-year-old Ana Konjuh of Croatia, 6-3, 6-0, on Friday.
Li, who has suffered five first-week losses in her last seven Wimbledon appearances, was flat from the onset. She committed 37 unforced errors and converted on only two of her seven break point opportunities.
