(July 17, 2011) Former No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero was able overcome injuries to beat fellow Spaniard, Pablo Andujar and capture the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart, winning 6-4, 6-0.
This gives the now No. 85 in the world his 16th ATP singles title and a possible chance to make it back in the top ranks of the men’s game.
Ferrero and Adujar had previously only squared off once, with Andujar taking the game as Ferrero retired in the third set. Today, however, was a different story as Ferrero played a solid first set and absolutely dominated in the second, bageling Andujar and capturing the title.
