(August 14, 2012)--Two-time NCAA champion Steve Johnson earned a main draw wildcard into the 2012 US Open, the USTA announced. 

This year, the USTA awarded the wildcard to the American who earned the most ranking points at two of four USTA Pro Circuit hard-court events--50k events held in Binghamton and Lexington, plus 100k events held in Vancouver and Aptos.

Johnson, 22, won the Comerica Bank Challenger in Aptos on Sunday when he defeated his former USC teammate Robert Farah in the final.

Johnson received a wildcard into the 2011 US Open and lost in five sets in the first round to Alex Bogomolov Jr. He jumped to a career-high 237 in the rankings this week.

Also receiving wildcards were USTA Boys and Girls 18s national champions Dennis Novikov and Victoria Duval. Novikov, of San Jose, Ca., defeated Alexios Halebian 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the annual event held at Kalamazoo, Michigan. Novikov is currently playing collegiately at UCLA.

Duval earned her wildcard by defeating five of the tournament's top ten seeds at in San Diego, Ca. The 16-year-old defeated No. 3 seed Alexandra Kiick in the final 306, 6-1, 6-0. Duval is a Bradenton, Fla. resident who has spent time at the Nick Bollettieri Academy.

She is currently ranked 566 in the world.

The US Open's main draw begins August 27th in New York.
