Tennis player Jelena Dokic's father was jailed for launching a hunger strike to protest his 15-month prison sentence.
According to the Associated Press, “Damir Dokic was convicted for threatening the Australian ambassador in Belgrade and unlawful possession of weapons. His sentence has been confirmed in a retrial.”
Bosiljka Djukic, Dokic's lawyer, says she was informed Thursday by Dokic's wife that he was no longer accepting food or water. Djukic says she will visit her client in a prison in northern Serbia on Friday.
Dokic was arrested in May after reportedly saying he would blow up ambassador Claire Birgin's car if she didn't stop negative articles about him from being published in Australia.
