(March 29, 2011) Monday night and Tuesday mid-day were plagued by showers, that rain spread out the matches on court time and aided the upset. 21st seed Andrea Petkovic defeated 6th seed Jelena Jankovic in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Petkovic beat World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki on the previous day.
Of course, Petkovic did her signature jig after winning but, according to the Wall Street Journal, she plans on not doing it anymore after this tournament.
Jankovic and Petkovic had to suspend play after the first set and Jankovic could not find her rhythem in the second with some net balls and double faults. Petkovic was delivering beautiful strokes and a particularly effective backhand.
Petkovic said, "I'm confident, you know, but I've just always believed in myself. I always believed that I can beat those top players. It was always just a matter of time. I started a little later maybe than the other girls, so that's why I'm quite old for a female tennis player, maybe."
