(April 13, 2012) The Barcelona Ladies Open is very much wide open even though Dominika Cibulkova notched an impressive comeback late tonight. But Italy's Sara Errani proved today she may be the one to beat.
No. 7 seed Errani, who won Acapulco back in February, proved her recent rise up the rankings was not a fluke as she dismissed No. 2 seed Julia Goerges 6-2, 6-3. Errani, who also reached the doubles final with partner Roberta Vinci, will now face the last Spaniard left in the draw Carla Suarez Navarro who beat Simona Halep of Romania 6-4, 6-1.
The other semifinal will feature Sorana Cirstea who came back from losing the first set to defeat Olga Govortsova 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, against No. 3 seed Dominika Cibulkova. Cibulkova, who dropped the first set as well to Ukranian qualifier Yulia Beygelzimer, staged an impressive and comprehensive rally as the Slovakian didn't drop a game en route to a 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 win.
Cibulkova won the only meeting she had against Cirstea in 2009 at Dubai while Suarez Navarro leads the head to head against Errani 2 to 1 with their last match being played in Palermo back in 2008.
