(January 26, 2011) Being No.1 in anything holds a lot of weight. Fans looking up to you, competitors hoping to surpass you, and a commentators who wait for the moment you fall. For Caroline Wozniacki, however, during her time at the Australian Open it seemed that this pressure was nonexistent until today. Succumbing to the power of Na Li, Woziacki was knocked out in the first round of the semifinals, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Though she had match point at 5-4, Wozniacki was no match for Li's rallying efforts. Off to a slow start, the...year old player made 17 unforced errors along with a serve that was broken twice. However, it was in the eighth set that Li broke back and made the match 4-4. Through her pushing, Li was able to break twice in a row to win the second set 7-5.
Recovering from a set and a break down, the Chinese player saved a match point before taking the seemingly easy victory from Wozniacki's hands and breaking the top seed three times before serving out the match. She is now the first chinese player to reach a Grand Slam final.
Li now waits to see who she will face from the second semifinal match between third seed Kim Clijsters and second seed Vera Zvonareva.
Though this is the end of the round for Wozniacki in Australia, the line up for the Indian Wells Tournament were announced today. Along with other top stars in tennis will be traveling to California in March. Featuring defending women's champion Jelena Jankovic, Ana Ivanovic, Daniela Hantuchova, and Maria Sharapova. While on the men’s side, defending champion Ivan Ljubicic will be joined by Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer,Novak Djokovic,Robin Soderling and many more.
