(July 27, 2010) Andy Murray will start the US Open Series without a prominent member of his support team. The fourth-ranked Murray has fired long-time coach Miles Maclagan, his management company 19 Entertainment announced today.

The burly, 35-year-old Maclagan was a member of Murray's coaching team for two and a half years.

"I've had a great relationship with Miles over the past two and a half years and I want to thank him for his positive contribution to my career," Murray said in a statement.

Former French Open finalist Alex Corretja, who has worked with Murray as a coaching consultant in recent years, will continue to work with Murray until he hires a new coach.

Murray and
Maclagan often played soccer tennis, kicking the tennis ball around the court, as a way to warm-up for practice.

"It's been a privilege to work with Andy as his coach and I'm happy to have played my part in his career," Maglagan said. "Andy is a great player and I know he will continue to have the success his talent and hard work deserves."

The 23-year-old Murray is the top seed at this weeks Farmers Classic at the LA Tennis Center at UCLA. Murray opened the season losing to Roger Federer in the Australian Open final, but has struggled to find his form. He lost to eventual-champion Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon semifinals earlier this month.
