(October 17, 2010) Andy Murray  resides one spot behind
Roger Federer in the rankings, but continues to have the Swiss stylist's number in Masters events. Playing some of his best tennis of the season, Murray collected his sixth career Masters 1000 title with today's 6-3, 6-2 win over Federer in the the Shanghai Rolex Masters final.

The fourth-ranked Scot scored his second Masters 1000 final win over Federer. In August,
Murray beat David Nalbandian, Rafael Nadal and Federer in straight-sets succession to win the Rogers Cup in Toronto in August.

Pouncing on Federer's second serve in today's rematch, Murray won 16 of 21 points played on Federer's second serve and converted four of eight break points in collecting the champion's check of $616,500.

“I’m very, very pleased,” said Murray. “I served great, especially when I was behind in the games. I hit the ball well from the back of the court. Against Roger you have to go after it early. I returned his serve well tonight and got a lot of free points on my serve; my second serve has improved so much since the start of the season."

Murray saved all six break points he faced in the one hour, 25-minute match. He did not drop a set in capturing his second title of the season and raising his record to 16-8 in finals.

“I’ve moved really well all week, the speed was very good tonight," Murray said. 'I hit a lot of great shots on the run and you have to come up with a lot of great shots against Federer if you want to beat him."

Federer, who scored a 7-5, 6-4 win over second-ranked Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, was seeking a record-equaling 18th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophy. Federer is the all-time leader in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 match wins and has a 221-67 lifetime mark.
