Displaying the tenacity of a tried-and-true WTA veteran, 17-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova surged to her maiden WTA title this week in Chennai, completing her third comeback from a set down in the final to defeat third-seeded Magda Linette of Poland, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
At 17 years and 141 days old, Fruhvirtova is the youngest winner on the WTA Tour in 2022.
Fruhvirtova completed a late push to victory for the second time in as many days in Chennai—she won the final four games on Saturday to defeat Nadia Podoroska, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
The 130-ranked teenager is slated to make her Top-100 debut on Monday.
Fruhvirtova converted three of six break points and saved seven of nine to earn the victory.
Fruhvirtova's 15-year-old sister, Brenda, was also successful on Sunday. She won her 25th consecutive match on the ITF Tour, racking up her fifth straight ITF Challenger title in Santa Margherita di Pula, Italy. Brenda is currently on a 25-match winning streak in ITF Challenger events.
