Marie Bouzkova entered Wimbledon with three Grand Slam wins to hear name in 12 appearance. This Wimbledon fortnight she has four – and counting.
The 23-year-old Czech took down France’s Caroline Garcia on Sunday, 7-5, 6-2, to reach her first major quarterfinal and set a clash with either Elise Mertens or Ons Jabeur.
"I don't know I got here honestly," Bouzkova told the crowd after her win. "I just played point by point, to try to fight as much as I can, just enjoyed the moments and tried to embrace all the emotions today - just to be in quarterfinals, it's a dream."
Bouzkova needed 83 minutes as she played a squeaky clean match, committing just four unforced errors in the all unseeded battle.
"If you would tell me before the tournament started I would be in the quarters, I probably wouldn't believe you," Bouzkova said. "Always try to take it match by match.
"Since first match has been really tough journey for me. I have been feeling really many emotions. Yeah, just to be now in the quarters, it's something very special for me. I'm just, like, really proud right now that I've been able to handle everything the way I have and just enjoy the moment."
The 66th-ranked Czech won 7 of 7 points at net and broke serve four times on 11 opportunities to continue her progress – she has not dropped a set through her four victories this week at SW19.
