Whether there is a 2020 tennis season or not, Roger Federer has ruled himself out of it.
The Swiss has announced that he has undergone a “quick” arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Federer says he plans to take his time to do a proper recovery, much like he did prior to the 2017 season, and he’ll miss the remainder of 2020 at a minimum.
Federer underwent surgery in February on the right knee, but apparently suffered a setback that let to the second surgery. In 2016, the Swiss had surgery on his left knee and returned to play on the clay. But he cut his season short after Wimbledon that season with his knee still causing problems.
He returned in great health in 2017 and won the Australian Open for his 18th major title, then won Wimbledon for his 19th.
