Juan Martin del Potro is back on the court and taking the necessary steps towards resuming his professional tennis career again.

“I wanted to tell you that these days I started to hit again,” Del Potro wrote on Instagram. “The knee still bothers me so we have to see how it evolves. Although I have no schedule, once again I am taking all the necessary steps to continue doing what I love.”

#FelizDiaDelAmigo 🙌🤗 . . Today I came to spend the day with my friend! I wanted to tell you that these days I started to hit again. The knee still bothers me so we have to see how it evolves. Although I have no schedule, once again I am taking all the necessary steps to continue doing what I love. Thank you for the love you always give me. #HappyFriendsDay

Del Potro injured his right patella late in 2018 and ended up having two surgeries—one in June of
2019 and the latest in January of this year—to repair it. He initially tried to avoid surgery, but slipped and fell at Queen’s Club in 2019, and has not played since.

Del Potro has now undergone six different surgeries in his career--the first on his right wrist in 2010, the second, third and fourth on his left wrist between 2014 and 2015, the fifth on his right knee last June and the sixth on his right knee this January.

The former World No.3 has missed nine or more months of time four times in his career.

The 2009 US Open champion, 31, currently holds a ranking of 128.
