The 2018 tennis season began with Caroline Wozniacki’s crowning achievement. Ten months later the Great Dane is still going strong.

Wozniacki claimed her second China Open title on Sunday, defeating Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova 6-3, 6-3 to improve to a perfect 5-0 against her opponent.

Wozniacki improves to 40-15 on the season and claims her 30th career title—the Dane currently sits at fourth among active player on the WTA’s title list, behind only Serena (72) and Venus Williams (49), and Maria Sharapova (36).

Wozniacki reeled off three games from 2-2 in the opener to take control, and she served out the set to 15, converting her second set point with a smash winner to take a one set to love lead.

The Dane rolled out to a double-break 4-1 lead in set two but Sevastova hit back with a break and hold to climb to within 4-3.

Tecnifibre T-Fight

Wozniacki's troubles continued temporarily--she needed to save three break points to wiggle out of a pickle in the eighth game--but the World No.2 converted her third championship point in the next game when a Sevastova forehand sailed long of the baseline.

Wozniacki keeps her slim hopes of re-taking the No.1 ranking by year's end with her victory--she has cut Halep's lead over her to under 1000 points but is defending champion's points at the WTA Finals.

Sevastova will rise to a career-high ranking of 12 in the world in this her best season as a pro.
