30-year-old German Tatjana Maria claimed her first WTA title at the Mallorca Open on Sunday, defeating defending champion Anastasija Sevastova, 6-4, 7-5.

It was the first WTA final for Maria, who rises from 79 to 48 in the rankings, just two spots shy of her career-high.

Maria improves to 1-1 lifetime against Sevastova with the win. The German rallied from 4-0 down to win six of the final seven games, and converted her third championship point when Sevastova sailed a backhand return wide.

Maria, the first mother to claim a WTA title in 2018, also defeated Anett Kontaveit, Carina Witthoeft, Lucie Safarova, and Sofia Kenin this week.

Maria’s daughter, Charlotte, will turn five in December.

The victory is Maria’s second Top 20 win over her career, and it snaps a run of eight losses in a row against Top 20—it was her first since defeating Eugenie Bouchard at Miami in 2015.
