The top-seeded Vandeweghe fought off seven match points edging fellow American Alison Riske, 7-6 (6), 3-6, 7-6 (12) scraping into the Libéma Open semifinals on the grass of 's-Hertogenbosch.
Two-time champion Vandeweghe stung 16 aces and converted her fifth match point to subdue Riske in a gripping two hour, 56-minute thriller.
When it was over, Vandeweghe dropped to a crouch and was motionless for a moment as if absorbing the comeback.
Vandeweghe has won eight of her last nine matches in 's-Hertogenbosch.
Vandeweghe has won all four tie breaks she's contested this week, including pulling off this rare back-spinning winner in her 7-6 (4), 6-3 decision over Arantxa Rus.
The 16th-ranked American will play seventh-seeded Serbian Aleksandra Krunic for a spot in the final.
Krunic rolled Russian qualifier Veronika Kudermetova, 6-2, 6-2, earlier today. Krunic has permitted just 12 games in three match wins en route to her second semifinal of the season.
