Garbiñe Muguruza has been awarded the 2017 WTA Player of the Year award. The Spaniard, who claimed her second title at Wimbledon and rose to become the 24th No.1 in WTA history, was recognized at The Gala Evening at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.
Muguruza has a 46-19 record heading into this year’s WTA Finals, and still has a chance (along with six other players) to finish the year as No.1.
The other awards were handed out as follows:
Best Doubles Team: Martina Hingis and Chang Yung-Jan
Most Improved Player: Jelena Ostapenko
Comeback Player of the Year: Sloane Stephens
Best Newcomer: CiCi Bellis
Aces Award: Angelique Kerber
