Novak Djokovic celebrates his birthday as the new Lacoste brand ambassador. The 12-time major champion, who just yesterday brought Andre Agassi in as his new coach, is clearly interested in a classic look and feel.
Here’s what Lacoste said about the union in its press release:
“René Lacoste and Novak Djokovic. Two legends who share the same values of Fair-Play, tenacity and elegance. In 1933 tennis player and inventor René Lacoste, nicknamed the Crocodile for the tenacity he displayed on the court, revolutionized the world of sportswear by creating the LACOSTE L.12.12 Polo shirt. This garment’s unique fabric, the cotton petit piqué, allowed the 1930s tennis players greater freedom of movement. The LACOSTE L12.12 Polo shirt has since become the icon of a brand, symbolizing French elegance and timeless style the world over."
“Today Novak Djokovic becomes the LACOSTE style ambassador, not only on but also off the tennis court. His relaxed elegance and inventiveness are a perfect match for the French brand’s DNA and its sports-inspired creations.”
Djokovic tweeted the following on Monday morning: "Proud to be part of this revolutionary @LACOSTE story, that still lasts till this day. I'm proud to be the new Crocodile."
Djokovic will begin by wearing the new look at Roland Garros, where he is the defending champion.
