The former No. 1 initially planned to launch her comeback in Stanford in July, but said her training has been progressing so well she will return for the grass season.
"I will be finalizing my schedule before Wimbledon in the coming days," Azarenka tweeted. "I plan to play one of the grass court events prior to Wimbledon."
The 27-year-old Belarusian gave birth to her first child, son Leo, in December.
Former No. 1 Maria Sharapova has already accepted a wild card into Birmingham. If Azarenka also opts to play the popular grass-court tune-up tournament for Wimbledon it would give Birmingham a loaded field.
In 2016, Azarenka was one of the hottest players on the WTA Tour, posting a 24-3, including conquering Serena Williams to win Indian Wells, before pregnancy ended her season with titles in Brisbane, Indian Wells and Miami.
