Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova battled back from a set and break down in the final to win the U.S. Open women's double title.

Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova came back from the brink to win in three sets and claim their first U.S. Open title on Sunday, 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, over the French duo of Carolina Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic.

The victory marks the third Grand Slam title for the American-Czech duo, who also won titles at the 2015 Australian Open and the 2015 French Open.
After falling behind by a set and a break, Mattek-Sands and Safarova broke to level the Frenchwoman at 5-all and moved ahead 6-5 in the second set.
Kristina Mladenovic held serve to force a tiebreaker, before Mattek-Sands and Safarova claimed the second-set in a tight tiebreaker.
Garcia was broken a second consecutive time to open the third set and it was a lead that Mattek-Sands and Safarova would never relinquish. They did not face a break point in set three. Safarova served the match out, converting the second championship point when a Garcia backhand return floated into the net.
Garcia and Mladenovic were bidding to become the first all-French duo to win the women's doubles title at the U.S. Open. Earlier this season the became the first all-French duo to win Roland Garros since 1971.
