Victoria Azarenka created quite a stir on social media early Friday when she announced that she is expecting her first child.

“While recovering from the knee injury that I sustained at Roland Garros, I received news from my doctor that my boyfriend and I are going to become parents at the end of this year,” Azarenka wrote.
The former World No. 1 has had quite a 2016. She won the Indian Wells-Miami double this spring, defeating world No. 1 Serena Williams at Indian Wells and rushing out to a record of 26-3 with three titles.
That fine form on the tennis court will have to be put on hold, but Azarenka says she has every intention of returning to the tour to continue her career as a mother.
“I will take the time to improve myself in ways I’ve never been able to do before,” wrote Azarenka. “I have been truly inspired by so many strong female athletes who return to the very top of their sport after having children, and I plan to do exactly that.”
