French Open Girls’ Singles champion Rebeka Masarova made her WTA debut count on Thursday at the Ladies Championship Gstaad.

The 16-year-old Swiss knocked off second-seeded Jelena Jankovic in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2, to reach the second round.

Masarova, who upset the No.1 and No.2 seeds in the Roland Garros Girls’ Singles draw en route to the title, will next face Anett Kontaveit of Estonia.

"I prepared so well mentally and physically for this,” Masarova said after her win, according to WTATennis.com. “I was so happy to play this match; I knew it'd be a good experience, but I wanted to win, and I'm glad I did."

At the opposite side of the age scale, Switzerland’s Patty Schnyder played her first WTA-level match since the 2011 French Open, losing in three sets to Katerina Siniakova, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.

The former world No. 7 has only played Challenger-level tennis since returning to the professional ranks last year, but the 37-year-old says she feels she’s not too far from earning some Tour-level wins. “It's just small things I have to work on that'll help me win these kinds of matches," she said.
