After originally announcing that she would miss Fed Cup and the rest of February to undergo nasal surgery in January, world No. 3 Simona Halep has changed her mind. Halep, featured in Romania’s Fed Cup loss to Romania over the weekend, now says she’ll continue to play for the foreseeable future.

“Now I started to play good tennis and I don’t want to stop again,” she said. “I had long breaks before, many antibiotics, so I just need to stay a little bit away from them and then we’ll see.”
Halep had intended to skip Fed Cup, Doha and Dubai, but after feeling strong this weekend during two Fed Cup singles matches, she’s apparently confident enough to continue without the surgical procedure—for now.
“I feel okay,” she said after her win over Petra Kvitova on Sunday. “I’m not very tired.”
Halep admits that she still does not feel 100 percent physically. She was asked on Sunday how far off she is from her very best. “Pretty far,” she said. “Pretty far emotional, pretty far mental, but physically I am back. I feel that I am strong again. I need just to have more confidence in my game, in my shots, and then I will be back at 100 percent.”
Still, Halep doesn’t rule out surgery at some point in the season. “We’ll see,” she said. “Maybe this year I will have to do it because it’s better for me.”
