Venus Williams chose not to speak to the media at Roland Garos after a first-round loss, and that decision will cost her some spending money.

After a disappointing opening-round loss to Sloane Stephens in Paris, seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams decided she did not want to talk about it.

It will cost her.

The American was fined $3,000 for skipping out on the media. According to Nick McCarvel of USA Today Sports, it’s the second time that Williams has been fined—she was fined $4,000 for skipping out on a press conference after a doubles loss at Wimbledon, along with her sister Serena.

Williams did, however, communicate with the media in the form of a brief written statement. "When you arrive at any tournament you hope you will have a chance to work your way into the event, but I didn't have that opportunity," she said. "[Stephens] just played better than me today."

Fines for players missing press conferences are relatively common, and usually range from $2,000 to $10,000. According to McCarvel, 17 fines have been issued at Grand Slams since 1990.
