Roger Federer is the only player to have won the Indian Wells-Miami double in consecutive years. But Novak Djokovic can tie him in that category and pass him in another with a title next week.

Who is the master of the North American spring swing? Apparently, Novak Djokovic. But the Serb, who will begin his bid for a record third Indian Wells-Miami double this week at the Miami Open, isn’t the only one to have made his mark by winning the grueling hard court events in succession.

In total, nine players (seven men and two women) have achieved the feat, while only one (Roger Federer) has won it in back-to-back years. Djokovic can be the second to win the double in back-to-back years, as well as the first to win the double three times with a title in Miami.

If you’re wondering if the double is a predictor of success for the rest of the season, well, it’s hard to say. Steffi Graf won all three Slams in ’96 after her double, and Federer (twice) and Djokovic (once) have both gone on to win two of the year’s final three majors after their doubles. But on four occasions, the winner of the doubles has come up empty at the majors for the rest of the season.

Here’s a tidy little table to breakdown the history of the double, below (Yellow background is for women, green is for second double):
