Wimbledon concluded on Sunday, but grass-court season continues to bloom.

Steve Johnson rallied for a 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-2 victory over Michael Berrer to reach the round of 16 at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport.

It was Johnson's 20th career Tour-level victory.

Third-seeded Bernard Tomic was the first seed to fall losing to fellow Aussie John-Patrick Smith, 6-3, 7-5, in their first meeting.

The 25th-ranked Tomic was coming off a third round appearance at Wimbledon, where he lost to eventual-champion Novak Djokovic. Smith will play the winner of the all-American clash between Providence native Jared Donaldson and Austin Krajicek.

The seventh-seeded Johnson, a Newport quarterfinalist last year, will play either Long Island native Noah Rubin, the 2014 Wimbledon boys' champion, who makes his ATP debut, or Japan's Tatsuma Ito for a spot in the last eight.

Here's a glimpse of Johnson's serve and forehand combination.

Top-seeded John Isner, the 2011-2012 champion, meets fellow American Rajeev Ram, who won Newport in 2009, in his opener.

No. 2 seed Ivo Karlovic plays Illya Marchenko today.
