Eugenie Bouchard’s search for a full-time coach appears to be over. Apparently, Victoria Azarenka’s is just beginning.
According to Stephanie Myles of the Toronto Star, Eugenie Bouchard has hired Sam Sumyk to be her new coach.
Sumyk, who spent his last five years guiding Victoria Azarenka to two Grand Slam titles and the No. 1 ranking, was thought to still be working with the Belarussian.
But sources say they saw they saw the Frenchman training with Bouchard at the National Tennis Centre in Montreal this week.
Bouchard parted ways with longtime coach Nick Saviano in November after a breakout season that saw her reach the semifinals of three consecutive majors.
Neither Bouchard or Azarenka have commented on the hiring as of yet.
Myles reported that Sumyk declined to comment on the agreement when reached at his hotel in downtown Montreal, but later tweeted the identity of her reliable source: Aresh Madani of Sportsnet.
