World No. 8 Caroline Wozniacki completed the New York Marathon on Sunday afternoon in an unofficial time of 3:26:33, raising an estimated $80 thousand for charity and enjoying a heart-warming embrace with her friend Serena Williams at the finish line.
Wozniacki, who had never run more than 13 miles in her training, had just completed reviving her tennis career last week by finishing in the top ten on the back of a strong performance in Singapore that saw her barely defeated in the semifinal by Serena Williams in a third-set tiebreaker.
Social media was alive with chatter about the Great Dane’s performance, complete with mile-by-mile charting of her pace (she ran the first 20 miles in less than eight minutes and averaged below eight-minute miles for the whole race) even while the men’s final in Paris was finishing up and the women’s final at the WTA Tournament of Champions was underway.
