Gael Monfils, Davis Cup

Sliderman strikes again! This amazing get by Gael Monfils was one of many magical Davis Cup moments this weekend.

It was a crazy weekend in Nancy, France as the French found themselves on the brink of elimination when an undermanned German team, led by Tobias Kamke and Peter Gojowczyk swept the opening day. But the French, thanks largely to the magical mystery man known as Gael Monfils, rallied to execute the first comeback from 0-2 down in the World Group in 16 years.

Watch as Monfils whips the crowd into a frenzy with this sizzling forehand pass from a seemingly hopeless position. Can anybody in the sport track down a ball as quickly as Monfils? And how does he find the narrow window to work this ball by past Gojowczyk?

Fans of the footwork of modern tennis might want to look closely at the second and third replay of this shot. But seriously people, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!

France will host the Czech Republic in the Davis Cup semis in September. Hopefully we'll see more of Monfils when that tie rolls around...
