The resurgence of former Grand Slam champion and World No.4 Bianca Andreescu continues.

The 23-year-old Canadian powered into the Libema Open final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, defeating Hungarian qualifier Dalma Galfi, 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday, setting a final with either Ekaterina Alexandrova or Liudmila Samsonova.

Andreescu, playing in just her second WTA event of the season after missing nine months due to a back injury, will bid for her first title since she won the US Open in 2019.

“It means everything because I haven’t had the easiest career after 2019 with injuries and all that,” Andreescu said. “All the work I’ve been putting in has really paid off. I never gave up – it really means a lot to me.”

Andreescu has now won six of seven matches since making her return to the court at Roland-Garros two weeks ago.

Currently 228 in the world, she is at least assured of a return to the Top 200 in next week’s rankings.

Andreescu wasn’t troubled against Galfi as she converted four of five break points and won 50 percent of her first-serve return points.

“Today definitely wasn’t easy,” Andreescu said. “[Galfi] has been on a role, going through qualifying, so I wasn’t expecting anything easy. The conditions are very hard as well, but all you can do is stay in the present moment and control what you can control.”
