Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

Roger Federer got one of the softest code violations for ball abuse that you can get on Friday night in Beijing and he was none too pleased.

Federer and chair umpire Nacho Forcadell talked about a number of topics during their heated interactions on Friday, and Forcadell even apologized to Federer for not warning him about the change to new balls.

But the Italian didn’t budge on Federer’s second infraction for ball abuse, which prompted another minute or so of heated debate between the two.

Federer saved five match points in the second set but could not parlay that tremendous escape into a victory. He fell 6-3 6-7(7) 6-3 to Zverev, the loss marking his fourth in seven career contests with the German.

Afterwards Federer was in no mood to discuss his interactions with Forcadell.
