Graf: Barty is Style Sister

No one plays like 22-time Grand Slam champion Steffi Graf.

But the Hall of Famer sees one style sister on the WTA Tour: world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty.

More: Graf on "Incredible" Gauff

Asked by the media in Zhuhai whose style reminds her most of herself, Graf said the scarcity of one-handed backhands among current pros—as well as the fact she rarely watches live tennis—makes for a tough comparison.

However, the 50-year-old Graf, who is the only player in tennis history to win the Golden Slam, cited Barty's skill playing the one-handed slice backhand to set up her favored forehand as similar to her own style.

"I mean I'm probably not the best to judge [similarities]," Graf told the media in Zhuhai. "I think you probably watch maybe more tennis than I do live, I'm seldom at courts now days any more, so it will be a lot harder for me.

"But the single-handed players are rarer and rarer out there. Ashleigh Barty, she did so well here last year and to have seen her pull her last year and a half together the way she has has been a whole lot of fun. But there are just very few one-handers out there any more."
