Attaining the world No. 1 ranking has done a world of good for Angelique Kerber's positive perspective.

A year ago, the seventh-ranked Kerber lost two of her three round-robin matches at the WTA Finals.

WTA Finals: Kerber Crushes Halep in Singapore

The 28-year-old German returned to Singapore and stamped her 60th win of the season with today's 6-4, 6-2 sweep of Simona Halep.

Kerber calls the confidence that comes from winning two Grand Slam titles a key ingredient to her 2016 success.

"Of course I have more confidence right now because I know how to win very big matches and tight matches," Kerber told the media in Singapore. "I know what to do to go for it and just take the game in my hands. Of course, I believe much more in my game and in my serve than like 12 months ago, especially after Singapore one year ago.

"I won so many good matches this year. I won two Grand Slams that's why I believe much more in myself.

"My positive body language I think that's also a change that I was trying to improve. I think that this gives me a lot more confidence as well when I have points like that and to stay positive and just going for it and believing in the shots."

A 2015 opening-round Australian Open exit followed by three straight Grand Slam third-round losses instilled one clear goal in Kerber at the start of this season: Bring her best to the majors.

"My goals for this year, after last year where I was not playing so well in the big tournaments, was to go in starting this year to being focusing more on the big tournaments on the majors, on the Grand Slams and having good preparation for that tournaments," Kerber said. "That was our goal and it worked very good for this year. For sure, for next year it will be the same: To really be focusing on the big events."
