Seizing the No. 1 ranking isn't the 29-year-old Scot's primary goal for next season.
Asked his wish for 2017, Murray said "to win Roland Garros."
The Roland Garros runner-up said his wish for tennis is "Roger and Rafa injury-free."
The Beijing champion attributed his strong Asian run to the week of rest he took after playing the Davis Cup semifinals last month.
"I think just after the summer that I had and after the US Open and Davis Cup, my body felt so much better after taking like seven, eight days off of complete rest, which I hadn’t had for quite a long time, and, you know, I’m really, really happy and glad now that I did that," Murray told the media in Shanghai. "It’s obviously working out well for me just now. I do feel good. I moved extremely well the first couple of matches here, and, yeah, I do feel like I’m seeing the game well and reading it good. Hopefully I can keep that up the next few days."
