Second Serve

The moment that many tennis fans have been eagerly anticipating has finally arrived. Juan Martin del Potro posted the above video of himself hitting backhands on Tuesday. The former Grand Slam champion has been rehabilitating his left wrist after multiple surgeries, and has posted multiple updates via social media since his last surgery this sumer, but none of them featured him with both hands on the racquet, hitting his two-handed backhand.

This is a major step for the Argentine. The former world No. 4 has only played 14 matches in the last two seasons. This season he attempted a comeback by playing Sydney, but he had to pull the plug on his season in late march after experiencing too much pain in a match in Miami against Vasek Pospisil.

Del Potro had his surgery in June, and has since been rehabbing extra carefully under the supervision of doctors. He has had four wrist surgeries in total—three on the left wrist and one on the right.
