The impossible dream… COME TRUE!

Novak Djokovic has clinched his fifth year-end ATP No.1 ranking as a result of Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal from this year’s ATP Finals.

“Five months ago it didn’t really look probable,” said Djokovic.

He wasn’t kidding. The Serb is the first man ever to rank outside the Top 20 in the same season that he finished as No.1, and he ties Roger Federer and Jimmy Connors on the all-time list for year-end No.1 finishes with five.

Only Pete Sampras has more with 6.

The Serb currently owns a 49-11 record with four titles including the last two Grand Slams at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. He has gone 11-3 against the Top 10 and will bid for his sixth title at the ATP Finals next week.

“I'm satisfied of course and I'm going to be No. 1 tomorrow officially,” Djokovic said on Sunday in Paris. “And what more can I ask for? I mean, I won 20-plus matches in a row and had a most amazing last five months of the year. So I'm getting into season finale with a lot of confidence and feeling good about my game. Hopefully health-wise, physically I'll be fine in a week time when it all starts in London.”
