Even it though it came in a losing effort, Roger Federer added to his reel of magical hot shots on Saturday in Paris, with one of the most improbable and remarkable shots he’s ever struck.

Federer saved a break point in the first set with this wave of the magic wand and it was a shot that left the crowd in disbelief as Federer and Djokovic tried to grasp the importance—and legality—of the shot.

Turns out, as Djokovic found out, it was legal.

Here’s what the Serb said about Federer’s incredible reflex volley after their contest:

“I saw his shot and then I just actually met someone from ATP to ask what, you know, because I wasn't clear on the rule. And everything was clean even though he hit it twice, but it was in one motion so the rule approves it. So yeah, it was quite a shot on a break point.”

After the match, Djokovic said that he felt the match was one of the highest quality matches he’s played all season—and ever against Federer.

“We had epic matches throughout our rivalry but this one definitely ranks as one of the best matches we played,” he said. “High quality tennis. Next to the match I played against Nadal in semis of Wimbledon, this was definitely the most exciting match I was playing this year, and probably the best quality tennis match that I was part of.

He added: “So it was kind of also expected, you know, because when I get to play Roger, I know I have to get the best out of myself in order to win. And that's why our rivalries and matches are so special.”
