Sloane Stephens has hired Sven Groeneveld as her new coach. The 2017 U.S. Open champion parted ways with Kamau Murray earlier this season.
Groeneveld, who has multiple decades of experience as a coach on both the ATP and WTA Tours, and most recently worked with Maria Sharapova for four years, a period that included Sharapova’s second Roland Garros title, in 2014.
Sharapova and Groeneveld officially split in March of 2018.
Groeneveld has also worked with Monica Seles, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, Mary Pierce, Caroline Wozniacki, and Ana Ivanovic. Ivanovic won the French Open and became World No.1 under Groeneveld's tutelage in 2008.
Stephens, who reached the Roland Garros final in 2018, is currently ranked No.8 in the world and owns a disappointing 10-7 record on the season.
She has reached only one quarter-final, at her last tour event in Charleston.
