The fantastic season for Hyeon Chung has come to a screeching halt as the South Korean star announced on Wednesday that he will need to miss Roland Garros due to an injured ankle, and he may have a small surgery in the near future.

“I have been struggling with an ankle injury during the entire clay season,” Chung wrote on social media. “An MRI scan has revealed that I have a build up of fluid in the ankle joint which might require a small procedure and then an extended period of rest.”

Chung has had a great season in 2018 that began when he became the first South Korean player to reach the semifinals at a Grand Slam at the Australian Open before bowing out to Roger Federer with a foot injury.

He has reached the quarterfinals or better at seven events this season, and made semifinals at Melbourne and Munich.
