Three months after spiraling in a career free-fall to No. 22 —his lowest ranking since 2006—Djokovic not only won his first major title since the 2016 Roland Garros, he also emerged as the US Open favorite.
Oddschecker lists Djokovic as a 16 to 5 favorite to win his third US Open title and first since 2015.
A year ago, a cranky right elbow forced Djokovic to withdraw from the US Open for the first time, snapping his streak of 51 consecutive Grand Slams.
The 31-year-old Serbian has contested the US Open final in six of his last seven appearances in New York.
Reigning Australian Open champion Roger Federer is the second favorite for Flushing Meadows, listed at 15 to 4, followed by reigning US Open champion Rafael Nadal, who is a 5 to 1 shot to retain his title.
Andy Murray, who will launch his hard-court return in Washington, DC this month, and Alexander Zverev, who has won two matches in three career US Open appearances, are both listed as 12 to 1 to win the US Open.
