World No. 7 and Wimbledon runner-up Milos Raonic has announced his withdrawal from the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Raonic cited a “variety of health concerns, including the uncertainty around the Zika virus,” as his reasons for pulling out.
Raonic is one of many top ATP players to be skipping Rio, though none specifically claim Zika fears as the primary reason. John Isner, Dominic Thiem, Bernard Tomic, Nick Kyrgios, Feliciano Lopez and Kevin Anderson are among the many that have already announced withdrawals. Last week at Wimbledon, top player mulled the decision, with many admitting their minds would not be made up until more research has been done.
"When I get more information, I'll be able to make my final decision,” Novak Djokovic said. “But for now, I'm planning to go.”
