Starting the 2021 season by winning three qualifying matches in Doha was an ideal way to start an important season for Serbia’s Davis Cup captain and former World No.12 Viktor Troicki.



What has happened since, however, is far from ideal. Marooned in his hotel room with 71 other players who were deemed as “close contacts” to Covid-19 positive tests on their flights to Melbourne, Troicki is enduring a “hard quarantine” in Melbourne – 14 days of 24/7 hotel room.

"If I knew, I wouldn’t come," Troicki told Sportski Zurnal.

“Total chaos, horror as far as everything is concerned,” the 34-year-old World No.202 said. “I'm locked up for 14 days, I can't leave the room. No training, nothing. My Grand Slam is failing, I can't get ready for five sets in the room.”

Troicki was hoping to make a big push at the Australian Open to start a run back in the direction of the Top 200. Now, his confidence shattered and his nerves frazzled, he’s not confident in his ability to recover in time to play well at the Australian Open.

“All preparations are failing,” he said. “Two weeks of lying in bed, it is certain that I will have to get back in shape for the next month and a half. All this is creating chaos in my career.”
