US Open Leaves Djokovic Out of the Picture

Every picture tells a story.

The official US Open poster screams absence for Novak Djokovic.

More: Zverev Withdraws from US Open

The Flushing Meadows major issued the official US Open poster—and 21-time Grand Slam champion isn't in the picture.

In a nod to Batman and Gotham City, the poster presents reigning champions Daniil Medvedev and Emma Raducanu, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Nick Kyrgios, two-time champion Naomi Osaka and Miami Open champion Carlos Alcaraz all looking toward the US Open light above New York City.

Djokovic is not present in the poster art in another sign his US Open hopes have dimmed.

An unvaccinated Djokovic is hoping the U.S. eases restrictions currently barring unvaccinated foreign travelers from entering the country. For now, Novak’s US Open fate hangs in the hands of the CDC, which will need to change current protocol for his entry.

The US Open draw is set for Thursday. Main-draw play begins on Monday, August 29th.

On his official website, Djokovic does not have the Flushing Meadows major listed among his upcoming events, which include Davis Cup and Laver Cup.
