Defense and defiance helped Grigor Dimitrov prevail in an epic match point in Toronto.

Dimitrov out-dueled Fernando Verdasco in this crazy 35-shot rally on match point, finally drawing an errant forehand to cap a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory that spanned late into the night after rain suspended play.

It was Dimitrov's first win over Verdasco in three years.

The Spanish left-hander knocked Dimitrov out of the Indian Wells second round and Roland Garros third round earlier this season.

Verdasco had won all three of the prior tie breaks the pair played, but Dimitrov toughed out this climactic tie break celebrating with a primal scream.
