Umpire Christian Rask hit Alize Cornet with a code violation when the Frenchwoman briefly removed her shirt during her first-round loss to Johanna Larsson on Day 2 (see video above).

The decision was met with resistance on Twitter, where several tennis personalities took to the social media site to complain of sexism by the powers that be.

Hard to fault the umpire who was just enforcing rules in accordance with the Grand Slam rulebook. To avoid further confusion the US Open has released its own change to the tournament’s change of attire policy, effective immediately.

The WTA took to Twitter to clarify the fact that it has no such rule that prohibits the changing of on-court change of attire.

Unfortunately, that’s too late for Cornet, who was eliminated in three sets on Day 2 by Johanna Larsson.
