Second Serve

On Sunday Rafael Nadal defeated Fabio Fognini in a wild Hamburg final, 7-5, 7-5, to win his 47th career clay-court title (stay tuned for full recap later).

That result is newsworthy, as it is Nadal’s biggest title of 2015, but thanks to Fabio Fognini, an incident that occurred during a changeover in the second set is generating the most buzz on social media right now.

After Fognini broke for 5-4 in set two, Fognini spent the changeover jawing at Nadal—something that we don’t see very often from tennis, even from somebody known to fly off the handle like Fognini. Here’s the video:

Reportedly, Fognini was angry about Nadal slowing down his pace during his service games, but that fact has not been confirmed by the Italian. What is known is that Nadal did not lose another game after the incident, and he gave Fabio a really cold handshake before busting into a huge celebration after his victory. All’s fair in love and war.
