Roger Federer has a message for the tennis world: “Rehab is rockinggggggg.”

The 20-time Grand Slam champion sent that message via Instagram, along with three pictures of what looked to be a grueling workout session.

Federer has been out of action since Wimbledon last year, where he reached the quarterfinals and fell to Hubert Hurkacz.

The 40-year-old underwent a third procedure on his right knee after Wimbledon in 2021 – the other two came after the 2020 Australian Open. He has also had surgery on his left knee, that coming in 2016.

At this point it isn’t clear when Federer will return to the tour. Expectations have been set very low. Back in March, Federer’s longtime coach and confidant, Severin Luthi, said that he could not imagine Federer playing Wimbledon.

"At the moment, I don't envisage him playing Wimbledon," he said. "I'm not someone who is saying it's impossible. But I can't imagine it right now."
