Jack Draper Plans to Play Cincinnati

There were injury concerns in Montreal, when Jack Draper was reduced to tears as his serve speed plummeted in the third set of his loss to Terence Atmane, but they have subsided a bit as of Friday as it has been announced that Jack Draper has accepted a wild card into the Cincinnati Open.

The tournament hasn’t made the official announcement yet.

It’s good news that Draper hasn’t suffered a setback too great to rule him out of a final chance to play himself into form ahead of the US Open. He’s currently on the player entry list for mixed doubles with Jessica Pegula, but he’ll either have to get a wild card or play his way through qualifying to enter the main draw.

Draper has played just five matches since injuring his knee in Barcelona, though the knee injury has not been the problem of late. Instead his lingering case of bone bruising in his left arm was what forced him to be a late withdrawal at Wimbledon.

When he has been fit, he has played well. Draper reached the quarterfinals at Indian Wells and the semifinals at Eastbourne. The former World No.4 is 8-6 on the season, and currently ranked 143, on account of all the missed time.
